Apply the Breaks are a DJ and MC team formed in Luton in 2003 comprised of DJs; Mack the Knife, C Smoove, Robbie C, Rob Focuz, Daddy Fingaz, DJ Idle and MC K.I.D. The crew were bought together by their shared love of Breakbeat Music, meeting via their shows on the legendary Raw FM in Luton and local nights the Monday Club (@ the Horn St in Albans) and their own “This is Oldskool” Events (@Caspers inLuton). The brand was initially launched at the third “This is OldskoolNight” where they introduced breakbeat via headliner “The Drunken All Stars” for the first time. This led to a series of “Apply the Breaks” nights at the Royal Hotel in Luton, bringing Oldskool legend “Slipmatt” to Luton for the first time and featuring Oldskool artists such as “Shut up and Dance”, Ellis Dee, Swan-E and Nicky Blackmarket, featuring alongside the latest breaks artists such as the Breakfastaz, Drunken All Stars and Ed 209. During this time the crew landed a residency at rave giant Raindancewhich they have held for 19 years.
Now in their 21st year, the crew have entertained crowds at many clubs and festivals with an energetic show of turntablism and terrible dancing. Their sets feature the best new Breaks and Bass, mixed up with old-school rave and Breakbeat classics from across the years. Over the years they have had regular radio shows on Hardcore FM, Raw FM, Origin, NuskoolBreaks, iBreaks and most recently Breaks FM.
Catch their new show “Apply the Breaks and Friends” every Wednesday night from 8pm to 10pm on Intabeats Radio on 106.5FM and DAB in Bedfordshire and surrounding counties, hosted by Robbie C, C Smoove, Rob Focuz and Dope Kenny with guest appearances from other members of the crew.
